?? 50+Shades of Grenada ??
? ? One month in ? ?

So it’s just over a month ago since we arrived at our new home on this beautiful island of Grenada, it feels much longer.

People here are so welcoming and visitors to our home get great delight in bringing us fruit picked from their trees. I’ve never had such an overflowing fruit bowl with wonderful tropical fruits, including the most sweet, juicy papaya from our own trees. How cool is that!

...Our house....

It’s been a month focused on working on the house, inside and out & we can’t believe the transformation in such a short time.
Not only is the house painted top to bottom, inside and out, a second bathroom has been created and our beautiful bedroom is finished.

With our feature orange wall, reflecting the sunrise and sunsets, our new four poster bed made by a local carpenter, looking out onto the lush green mountains and rolling white tipped waves in the Atlantic Ocean, our home is coming alive.

Great excitement last week as we finally unwrapped the furniture that we’d shipped from England. I was like a child at Christmas, I couldn’t get the wrapping off quick enough! Putting everything in its place filled me with huge pride. Today the pictures went up.. It is all looking so beautiful.

We still have the main bathroom, guest room & kitchen to finish

Work is about to start on the garden..fencing going up and a driveway being laid to replace the dirt track that becomes a mud bath in the rain (and there’s alot of rain!).

The land at the back of the house has been cleared and so far we’ve planted 25 fruit trees oranges, limes, grapefruit, bananas, coconut so will be self sufficient in the fruit department!

Our veranda which runs along two sides of the house is a magical space to just sit and be. With huge skies over the Ocean- where the sun rises and the mountains - where the sunsets, our view is forever changing. As I’m writing this the mountains are gradually disappearing under a blanket of bluey grey clouds.

....Our Social Life...

Where do I begin! We’re busier here than in UK. Everyone is so friendly & welcoming we’re quickly making many new friends.

A typical week includes a regular Friday evening drink at a local bar;
Saturday morning swimming club on our local beach of Bathway run by lovely friends Dave Wright Linda Wright I went along last week as a volunteer to help with the beginners. Seeing the local children build their confidence and enjoying the water was wonderful to see.

Saturday afternoon is the very popular Hash, a challenging walk/run that takes place in a different part of the island every week.

Last Saturday was charity red-dress hash & everyone, men included had to wear a red dress. Robin looked very fetching! Few pics below!! ? Going shopping for the dress explaining to very bemused shop assistants that it wasn’t for me but my husband was hysterical ?

Sunday mornings we go on a beautiful coastal walk that just happens to have a conveniently located bar at the end if it! It’s a lovely way to get to know people who live here & also meet guests from the local boutique hotel Petit Anse We had Sunday BBQ & buffet lunch at the hotel which was delicious.

Last Sunday was a Valentine’s party at our fabulous local beach bar..The Blue Bar , great music and very chilled vibe. Looking forward to seeing everyone on Friday for the next party! Caroline Lena

Yesterday we went to a beach BBQ, superbly organised by Malcolm & Margot . Everyone takes their own food to cook and a dish to share. There are some great cooks here so always lovely food. A ‘work’ day ?

In our ‘road’ (a dirt track!) we have just one neighbour & it was wonderful to meet Anna who appeared the other day to say hello bearing a gift of a bottle of chocolate rum! Totally yummy ? She and I hit it off immediately so very happy to have a friend a wave away!

I had a very enjoyable day out this week in the Capital, St Georges with Jane . When we first came to Grenada May 2016, we stayed with Jane & Denis as their Air B&B guests.
My most exciting purchase was half a gallon of fresh milk as we can’t buy it in the north of the island where we live! We had a gorgeous lunch at the very popular BBCrabback restaurant, owned by our neighbours Anna & her husband Brian.

...My work...

Now the house is coming together, I’m allocating more time to my skincare, cosmetics & nutrition online business. My plan is to work for a couple of hours in the morning so looking forward to seeing the business grow, helping others to do the same, all while living my dream life ?

The weather is now settling down, thank goodness. It rains during the night but the days are now sunny with just the the odd shower. ?

The house is still a hive of noisy activity but each day we’re getting closer to a quiet, peaceful haven.

One month in and we’re loving everything about our life here.. and full of gratitude to everyone for making us so welcome.
